How To Find The Right Executive Search Partner For Your Business's Talent Needs

There is a huge cost every day you wait to hire your business's next leader. If you believe that time is our most precious resource, the thought of not having the right leader in place should hit home. There is a loss in production, possibly significant team distractions, a negative impact on morale and a financial loss to an organization. The total cost is almost impossible to calculate, especially when it’s for a senior leadership role in a company in a critical growth phase. After spending nearly two decades hiring tens of thousands of leaders in almost every industry, I think it’s safe to say that opportunity costs from delaying this hiring decision is in the hundreds of thousands of dollars, at least. Research: How getting fired or laid off can make you a more attractive candidate for future jobs

Most leaders are, deep down, afraid of failure. But our 10-year CEO Genome  study  of over 2,600 leaders showed almost half (45%) suffered at least one major career blow-up — like getting fired, messing up a major deal, or blowing an acquisition. Despite that, 78% of these executives eventually made it to the CEO role. We conducted additional research on 360 executives, analyzing their careers in depth. While all of them experienced a variety of setbacks, 18% of executives in this dataset faced what many view as the very worst-case scenario: getting fired or laid off. Most of them lost their job at a relatively senior point in their career (only 17% were in their first decade in the workforce at the time they were let go). What we found is that being fired or laid off doesn’t necessarily have catastrophic effects on leaders’ prospects. We also found that leaders can do some specific things to make sure that a major setback doesn’t become a career-killer. The good ...

thinking about retain vs contingent hiring ?

I had been wondering about why companies go for retained search firm even whey they cost more, one need to pay a part of the  money upfront (retainer model), and very few firms who do that in comparison to contingent hiring Lots of HR people consider them to be the same and boy are they wrong about it. The basic difference as told to me by Sonia Sharma who leads the retained search business at the  executive search firm - Pipal Tree Services is : Retained Executive search firms They operate on an exclusive, client-centred basis and work on a limited number of assignments at one time. These firms often find candidates with diverse backgrounds and have access to candidates who are not actively seeking a new position. They are engaged in all aspects of the process, from defining the search through candidate integration. They charge a consulting fee (retainer) for the assignment, consistent with their in-depth advisory work. These search consultants deliver high-qual...
